Meditation: Imagine a scene of serenity. A scene with no movement or activity, but overwhelming calm and stillness. Everything is in balance: temperature, lighting, etc. A place that is void of need.

There are times in life in which we have transcendent experiences from  physical stimuli. They may only last for a moment, but these moments temporarily take us out of our normal range of sensation and into a different state altogether - a cold drink of water after being dehydrated on a hot day; a meal cooked perfectly which satisfies a specific craving; a hot cup of coffee or tea on a freezing evening or morning.

These moments are highlights on an otherwise mundane routine. They are welcome breaks from the monotony of our normal activities. They can be motivations to get us through. Although we may have a difficult or unpleasant day, we have faith that at some point, we will again taste the transcendence.

Maybe the transcendence is more than just another sensual experience. Maybe it is a remembrance - a remembrance of a state separate from physical needs; separate from want, desire and anxiety. A state of calm, balance, oneness and nothingness. An intersection of our physical, mental and emotional drives. A state where nothing matters but the deafening stillness.

I say remembrance because these feelings of soul seem to be harkening to something we once had, not something we have yet to attain. It seems to be a feeling of melon collie. And not a previous state that we are naturally evolving from, but one that we are intuitively RETURNING to.

I believe these experiences are but a glimmer of something much greater. Just a taste of a more intense and lasting state. I believe they are tiny windows into the ultimate goal we strive for - a closer relationship with our creator and a triumphant return to whence we came.

Let us continue to explore these experiences and what they mean to us in our life journeys.
